What we now offer are niche engineered savings solutions that combine compounded efficiency & conservation savings; primarily in the food and beverage industry.

Refrigeration Efficiency & Controls
Refrigeration systems are originally designed and constructed for the most extreme conditions that may occur in a facility. Some facilities experience these conditions on an ongoing basis. However, our experience has proven to us that most facilities’ refrigeration systems are running and consuming energy much more of the time than they need to be.
We have worked with the engineers who pioneered refrigeration conservation over 10 years ago to help develop their solutions offering and presence in the marketplace for the food & beverage industry. We combine reliable EC Motors with control systems to lower the overall operation and increase the efficiency of your refrigeration systems.

Utility Incentives, Engineered Savings, Measurement & Verification
At Hot Watt Energy, we refer to Engineered Savings as a Measurable & Verifiable energy reduction solution driven by utility incentive rebates. In simple terms:
- We collect existing system specifications and attach typical baseline energy consumption data to the current system
- Specify energy saving post measures based upon experience
- Run energy savings analysis (engineering formulas) and cost out the project
- Formalize and submit utility Custom incentive applications on behalf of our customers (with their approval), including all engineering formulas, reduction/savings spreadsheets, product specifications and complete narrative to explain our processes and solutions.
- The Custom incentives (available through most utility incentive programs) typically offer a much higher funding option towards your energy project than generic Prescriptive incentives. Our focus is on compounded efficiency & conservation measures that do not typically fit into the utility’s prescriptive incentive programs (generally a fixed $ amount for a standard energy reduction measure that equates to much less than a custom incentive).
- HWE then works with your utility’s incentive program administrator’s engineers to verify perceived savings
- Perform data collection (Measurement & Verification) for energy consumption and variable condition data with data logging devices to document the existing system’s electrical consumption, run-times, and other useful information like humidity, temperatures, pressures, etc.; typically 1-2 weeks in duration
- After installation of energy reduction equipment, we perform another 1-2 weeks of data collection to calculate and verify that savings and payback are real, and match the predicted savings.
These procedures remove the barriers of our customers and utilities who may not fully understand how savings are derived, or if the proposed energy reduction is accurate.
Interior & Exterior Lighting Efficiency & Controls
Facility indoor lighting has notoriously been what’s referred to in our industry as ‘low-hanging fruit’. This refers to the simplicity of retrofitting lighting in the past as well as the low cost and payback models typically associated with an energy efficient lighting upgrade. We still offer fluorescent lighting retrofits, but will compare against an LED technology upgrade using Life Cycle Costing analysis.
The lighting industry is re-evolving; technology is taking enormous leaps in efficiency (lumens per watt) and pricing (cost per watt). LED lighting is changing the way we as lighting professionals think about lighting a space, controlling the light levels and usage in a space, and also converting exterior lighting to LED where before there was no reputable upgrade. We have seen controlled LED lighting technology reduce 80+% of a facilities electrical lighting consumption.
With hundreds of lighting projects completed by our team members over the past several years, we are in a great place to educate our customers on technology, efficiencies, conservation (controls), implementation, incentives, and guide customers down the correct path that makes sense for their particular facility, employee and usage or production needs.
